2018 Australia Day Awards

Australia Day Awards recognise and honour individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to our local community.  These awards are an integral part of our Australia Day celebrations.

The 2018 awards were presented at Horsham Rural City Council's Australia Day celebration on Friday, 26 January 2018 at Sawyer Park in Horsham.

  • 2018 Citizen of the Year, Ian Walter:  Ian has made a significant contribution to the community over many years.  He has been a volunteer and member of various groups and associations, demonstrating strong community involvement, particularly in the role of Chairman of the Horsham Christian Emergency Food Centre.
  • 2018 Young Citizen of the Year, Dustin Cross:  Dustin is an enthusiastic young person with a genuine interest in helping others.  He is a willing volunteer who is always happy to help out, especially at the Horsham Agricultural Society, working bees for his local football club and at Longerenong College.
  • 2018 Community Event of the Year, 2017 Tri State Games:  The 2017 event was the bigest Tri State Games to date.  This outstanding event would not have been possible without the support of the many community volunteers that helped out.  This was the third year Horsham hosted the Tri State Games.
