Hamilton Street Pedestrian Bridge

Pedestrian Bridge similar design.jpg

The project

A pedestrian bridge connecting the east and west banks of the Wimmera River will be constructed at the end of Hamilton Street. This will join the walking track connecting the Waterlink Estate on the eastern side of the river.

The new pedestrian bridge will support safer connections for pedestrians and bicycle riders to the central activity district, schools precinct and Wimmera Base Hospital on the north-west side of the river.

After consultation with residents immediately adjacent to the site, the colour chosen for the bridge is Woodland Grey (Colourbond colour) which is a dark palette that will complement the existing Anzac bridge and blend with the natural environment.

Funding

Council has secured all funding needed for the construction of the planned Hamilton Street pedestrian bridge.

  • Commonwealth Government contribution: $1,225,000
  • Victorian Government contribution: $1,225,000
  • Land developer contribution: $100,000

Construction

The contractor is currently undertaking pre-fabrication of steel works. The community will notice on-site works occurring from November 2022 with the bridge due to be completed by the end of June 2023.
