Call for information on dog attacks

Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) is calling for public information about two recent dog attacks in Horsham.
Manager Regulatory Services Lauren Coman said a female maltese shih tzu was killed on Friday 28 June when two dogs entered via the rear of a Stewart Street property.
“The attack happened between 3pm and 5pm when a pair of dark tan coloured dogs mauled the shih tzu,” Ms Coman said.
HRCC is also investigating a separate attack that happened along Natimuk Road between 3pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday.
A young girl was walking two dogs on a leash in the company of her father when another dog rapidly approached and began attacking one of the girl’s dogs.
The father intervened and the injured dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
“Council takes all reported dog attacks very seriously and we are investigating the circumstances around both of these attacks,” Ms Coman said.
“It would be really useful if eye witnesses in those areas at the time could get in touch with us to provide their account of what happened.
“These sorts of incidents can have a severe impact on the community and we urge all residents to follow Local Laws,” she said.

In Horsham, any dog being exercised in public must be on a leash.
Dogs can be exercised off-lead in the following local reserves and parks but must remain under effective control and continual supervision.
