Pursuing and sharing creative interests and passions is fundamental to our health, wellbeing and happiness.

With COVID restrictions in place for many Victorians, the opportunity to come together to celebrate and enjoy creative pastimes, hobbies or employment has been severely impacted. The benefits of such interest has increased, realised and valued.

Horsham Rural City Council wants to hear from anyone in the municipality who likes to spend time exploring or developing their creative interests and passions.

Council’s Creative Services and Events Lead Shana Miatke said the information would help inform the development of Council’s new Creative Horsham Plan.

“The Creative Horsham Plan will guide how Council operations tailor and provide services through facilities such as the Horsham Town Hall in the future. Through the Creative Horsham Plan, Council is also interested in understanding the needs of creative businesses, the opportunities for public art and improving audience experiences,” Ms Miatke said.

“Input and feedback from people living here and making or consuming art is welcome. This can include being part of a band or choir, performing or supporting a theatre group; being part of a dance group or taking dance lessons, learning, playing or performing musical instruments, being part of an art group, learning new creative skills through lessons and classes, exhibiting or selling your artwork, providing creative services, like graphic design, film, photography, design, film animation or gaming, writing or producing artisan products,” Ms Miatke said.

Once developed, the Creative Horsham Plan will support Council’s vision for the municipality to be a vibrant, liveable hub that thrives on strong economic growth and social connectedness.

People can contribute to the development of the Creative Horsham Plan by completing a survey which is open until the end of September.

Over the next few months, there will be other ways the community can contribute to the Creative Horsham, including exploring the themes of Participation, Venues, Partnerships, Destination and Communication. People interested in the Creative Horsham Plan are also welcome to contact Ms Miatke through Council on (03) 5382 9777.

The full Creative Horsham Plan will be available for public comment later this year.
