Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) Mayor Mark Radford has made the following statement after Thursday morning’s fatal crash involving a bus on the Western Highway near Pimpinio.

“On behalf of the Horsham Rural City Council and our local community, I offer a few words of sincere appreciation to everybody who has assisted and is assisting with the aftermath of the awful traffic accident on the Western Highway early today.”

“To the many families, directly and indirectly affected, we offer our thoughts, prayers and condolences. To the emergency service teams for their response amid challenging weather conditions, we sincerely say thank you.”

“And to the many other local people who have assisted in small, but meaningful ways, your community admires and appreciates your actions.”

HRCC has established an emergency management centre at Horsham's Wimmera Base Hospital to help some of the bus passengers who have been medically cleared.

Council staff are supporting people at the hospital while they await for a replacement bus to continue their journey from Adelaide to Melbourne.
