Disabled and family parking provisions at City Oval

Extra parking for families with young children, the elderly and people with disability will be provided during match days at Horsham City Oval.
Due to safety concerns identified with parking on the southern embankment of the Oval, immediate action was required and parking around the Oval has been banned. This means that vehicles are no longer permitted inside the venue, with exceptions for service vehicles and people with additional needs.
John Martin, Director of Technical Services said Council was working with the Horsham Football Netball Club to ensure families with young children, the elderly and people with disability could park at the Oval.
A working party of representatives from both the Horsham Demons and council has identified an option for home games.
“Special permit parking will be available on the grassed embankment at the east end of the oval – between the football oval and the netball courts,” Mr Martin said.
“Existing bollards will be relocated to create additional space for cars to park safely on the flat section of the embankment and traffic movement to and from the embankment will be supervised by volunteers from the Horsham Demons.
“Permit parking will also be provided in Baker Street close to the main entry gate,” he said.
Mr Martin said options were also being explored to provide additional parking around the oval for football finals in September.
“In regards to the longer term, the need to provide safe viewing opportunities within the City Oval precinct has been highlighted and will be included as part of the improvements that will be identified when the City Oval Master Plan is developed,” Mr Martin said.
Horsham Demons chairman Geoffrey Lord said people applying for permit parking should contact the club.
"Horsham Demons may be contacted on 0457 823 685 to ascertain in-ground permit vehicle parking availability and permit allocation," Mr Lord said.
"Remember in-ground parking permits are available for invalid, disabled and parent/caregivers with prams only. Numbers are limited. A further six permit spaces are also available on Baker Street adjacent the main gate entrance. The same conditions apply."
