The Art Matters group evolved from consultations held during the 2015 Art Is…Festival, where people identified a need to increase meaningful arts participation opportunities for people with an intellectual disability. Art Matters is guided by a reference group that meets monthly and involves groups such as Wimmera Health Care Group, Woodbine, Cooinda, Wimmera Uniting Care, as well as local residents and artists.

2017 Project - The Island - Commencing March 6

The Island is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

The Island will see two utilitarian objects, industrial pallets and wheelie bins, used in an innovative way. Industrial pallets will be transformed into a series of personalised islands which will become a series of individualised art objects, performance spaces and film sets for a wheelie bin Camera Obscura to create a photographic exhibition, performance moments and screened outcomes.

The project will continue to be supported by local visual artist Anthony Pelchen, dance artist Amy Anselmi and videographic artist David Bowe and this year introduces Arts Access Victoria artist Rhian Hingklys’ Camera Obscura practice.

Art Matters will be commencing The Island on March 6 at Jubilee Hall. Sessions will be held each Monday (except Public Holidays and School Holidays) from 4-6pm at Jubilee Hall, Horsham.
