The pandemic and lockdowns dealt a harsh blow to the aquatic industry resulting in a loss of qualified staff. But Horsham Aquatic Centre is now part of a new partnership that is addressing the current shortage of swim teachers.

The SWIM Jobs Victoria initiative is a $3.4 million partnership between The Horsham Aquatic Centre, SWIM Coaches & Teachers Association and Jobs Victoria. It will enable jobseekers recruited into the program to access an income while completing the accredited training required to become an aquatic educator.

New recruits will receive tailored support including job-readiness training, dedicated individual mentoring and work equipment funding, while completing the nationally accredited SWIM Australia Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course, first-aid, and CPR training.

With this initiative now in place, there is no better time to become a swim teacher. Swim teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs you could hope to experience, and it is also extremely flexible, with teaching hours that can accommodate family, study, or other part-time work commitments.

So, if you have ever thought about becoming a swim teacher or know of family members or friends who would love a new career path, please share this information on this great new initiative. Becoming an aquatic educator is an opportunity to really make an impact in your community.
