Joint Agencies: Keep doing the right thing

Leaders of the Wimmera’s public and health services organisations have urged the community to keep doing the right thing when it comes to Coronavirus precautions.
Since March, the joint services committee has been meeting regularly using video conferencing to discuss the Wimmera’s readiness to respond to the most significant modern challenge the district has faced.
And while the second wave has so far not impacted the Wimmera, the group wanted to remind the community of the ongoing importance of hand hygiene and social distancing.
“Although it can seem as though we are removed from the spread of COVID-19 in metropolitan areas, it is important not to become complacent and to keep remembering to protect yourself and others,” Grampians Community Health Chief Executive Greg Little said.
“One of the greatest ways to ensure our community is not at risk of Coronavirus is to get tested if you have any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19.”
“Please remember that this virus is spread by droplets, so maintaining a physical distance of 1.5 metres between yourselves and others wherever possible reduces the risk, as does good handwashing and practicing cough and sneeze etiquette.
“Together, we can help to reduce the spread and help to protect ourselves and others,” he said.
Uniting Wimmera Executive Officer Josh Koenig commended the Wimmera community for its collective effort in helping to fight the spread of this pandemic.
“Communities like the Wimmera are fantastic. The way that our people gather around each other and put their hands up to help when others need it, it’s second to none,” he said.
“During COVID-19 this is even more evident with the Love Your Neighbour campaign and other initiatives.
“It’s so important that we continue on this path as a community and are kind to others that are doing their best under the circumstances. Hospitality is a great example, follow and respect the rules when you enter their premises to ensure that they can continue to operate.
“There is no cost to be kind.”
The agencies will continue to meet using video conferencing over the coming weeks and months.
