Cars proposed to be sold on Council land need a permit
Horsham Rural City Council’s Community Safety team are issuing a reminder to residents across the municipality that permits are needed prior to placing a car for sale on Council land.
This comes as a number of residents in the municipality have been displaying cars for sale in prominent road reserves and nature strips, without permits.
The Trading Activities section of the Community Local Law 3-2011 (Section 2.26) states that a person must not display any vehicles or goods for sale on a road or in a municipal place without a permit.
Section 2.27 of the Local Law also stats that a person must not leave a trailer or caravan on a road or in a municipal place for more than seven days, without a permit.
HRCC’s Community Safety team have advised that there is an ongoing problem with both residents and local companies breaking the rules, and fines have been issued in several cases.
This is in addition to reports of several heavy vehicles being parked in breach of Road Rules 200 Part 2 which states that heavy or long vehicles cannot be parked on a road in a built-up area for longer than one hour unless:
- parking signs say that it is allowed, or
- the driver is picking up or setting down goods.
Complaints highlighting this breach have been submitted by people who have noted this taking place on Natimuk Road and Dimboola Road in Horsham.
