Council services over Christmas and new year

Council wishes you a safe and happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.   There will be some changes to opening hours and services in December/January. 

The Council Civic Centre and depot will be closed from 2pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and will reopen at 8.30am on Monday 5 January 2026.

For urgent enquiries during this time, please call (03) 5382 9777. 

Please note: Due to the closure of the Civic Centre, the Customer Service team will not be responding to general enquiries.
Urgent calls made during the closure will be responded to and forwarded to the appropriate team for action.
All non-urgent requests should be submitted online and will be addressed on Monday, 5 January 2026.

Waste Collections

There will be no waste collections on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Instead, If your collection day would normally fall on a Thursday (Christmas Day), put your bins out a day earlier on the Wednesday 24 December before 6am. 

If your collection day is normally a Friday (Boxing Day), put your bins out on the following Monday, 29 December before 6am. 

All other collection days are unchanged during the holiday period.

Transfer Stations and Dooen Landfill

Waste Services on Total Fire Ban Days

Council transfer stations and landfill will operate as normal on Total Fire Ban days.

Council waste facilities WILL NOT operate on Catastrophic Fire Danger Days.

Council may close waste facilities with short notice if conditions change.

Horsham Town Hall

Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day) - closed
Friday 26 December (Boxing Day) - Visitor Information Centre open 10am - 4pm.
Art Gallery closed.
Saturday 27 December - Visitor Information Centre/Town Hall open 10am - 4pm.
Art Gallery closed.
Thursday 1 January (New Years Day) - Visitor Information Centre and Art Gallery open 10am - 4pm.

Kalkee Road Children's and Community Hub

Tuesday 24 December - closing at 2pm.
Monday 5 January - re-opening at 9am.

New baby service available by appointment only.
Maternal and Child Health Line - call 13 22 29 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Families with children from birth to school age can speak to an MCH nurse for advice and support.

Wimmera Libraries

Closed from 2pm Wednesday 24 December. Re-opens Monday 5 January.

Wimmera Business Centre

For tenant opening hours, please contact individual businesses for their operating hours.

All other Council Business enquiries, closed from 2pm on Wednesday 24 December2025 and will reopen on Monday 5 January 2026.

Horsham Aquatic Centre (YMCA)

Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day) - closed.
Friday 26 December (Boxing Day) -  Open 8am-4pm.
Thursday 1 January (New Year's Day) - Open 8am-4pm.

Community Safety

For dog attacks, roaming livestock, injured dogs and cats, and contained dogs, call 03 5382 9777 for referral to Councils after hours service – matter will be directed to a ranger. For all other queries Lodge a Service Request on Council's website. 

Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange 

The weekly livestock markets will restart on 14 January 2026.
