Bob Redden is officially a Councillor after taking the Oath of Office on Thursday.

Chief Executive Officer Sunil Bhalla and fellow Councillors congratulated Cr Redden on his appointment and welcomed him to the Horsham Rural City Council.

Cr Redden becomes the seventh HRCC Councillor, decided by the Victorian Electoral Commission during a countback of votes on Tuesday.

The retired seed curator and non-fiction writer has lived in the region since 2001 when he became Victorian Genebank curator for legumes and oilseed crops at Horsham’s Grains Innovation Park.

“I feel honoured to have been accepted onto Council and will strive to act in the best interest of the community,” Cr Redden said.

“Becoming a Councillor gives me a deep sense of pride and I look forward to working with the Mayor and the other Councillors.

“As a community, we are all so lucky to live here and the exciting thing is that we have a tremendous opportunity to make our municipality an even better place,” he said.

The countback was based on the proportional representation method of counting and followed the resignation of former Councillor Di Bell.

Only those candidates who were unsuccessful at the general election and who were still eligible to be elected were included in the countback process.
