Cr Les Power: Grants bonanza for local groups

Cr Les Power

As we are now in the month of February it is an important time of year for our community groups and volunteers to think about applying for a Community Grant from HRCC.

For those who don’t know, Council provides the Community Grants Program to financially support our municipality’s clubs and groups to keep up the good work they do so well at.

This year’s annual program closes at the end of the month and many applications have apparently already been received.

Council provides funding for projects and equipment, celebrations, festivals and events. The grants have been highly successful over the past 12 months with dozens of local projects worth $255,449 allocated funding.

After a quiet couple of years for social occasions, personally I think it would be great to see plenty of event organisers benefiting from the program, so that we see more social interaction in the 12 months ahead.

Council takes pride in supporting its community and we are proud of how the program is delivered each year so please participate.

If you are part of a community group and would like to find out more about the program and how to make an application, please go to the online Information Session on Tuesday February 15, 12.30pm – 1pm.

To join the online session, visit http://bit.ly/HRCC_Comm_Grants

Council staff will provide an overview of the grants program and be able to answer questions about your community project or projects.  For those who can’t make it, the session will be recorded and available for viewing later.

The drive and commitment the Wimmera community has for our region is remarkable and it is important that we honour these efforts. Without the hard work of our community groups and volunteers, a number of key events and opportunities would not be possible.

The dedication of those people help create many of the fantastic opportunities Horsham and district is known for.
