Crews continue storm clean-up

Thursday evening’s storm caused damage and debris across the municipality, and Horsham Rural City Council is asking residents to be patient as the clean-up job continues.

Working with lead agency the SES, Council’s parks and gardens staff are assessing the damage and responding to the most urgent needs first.

Council has received many calls about downed tree limbs and branches scattered across parks and open spaces.

Many have fallen over roads and footpaths while the heavy rain has caused erosion damage.

“We really appreciate the community’s patience as our depot staff work long hours to attend to the most urgent matters during this challenging period,” Mayor Robyn Gulline said.

“There will be a number of trees and debris for a week or so, while Council moves debris off roads and footpaths onto nature strips or reserves.  Council staff will return next week to remove the ‘made safe’ debris as soon as we can,” she said.

Residents can help by:

• Calling SES for emergencies
• Calling HRCC customer service only when necessary
• Not blowing leaves and debris into stormwater gutters
