New Committee to Keep Horsham’s Community Halls Alive and Thriving
Published on 25 September 2025
Horsham Rural City Council has endorsed the establishment of the Halls Community Asset Committee, ensuring the ongoing community-led management and activation of ten much-loved public halls across the municipality.
At the Council meeting on 22 September 2025, Council formally adopted the Committee’s Terms of Reference and confirmed the process for appointing members. The volunteer committee plays a vital role in overseeing Council-owned community halls, many of which serve as the social, cultural, and emergency hubs of rural and township life.
Acting Mayor Cr Brian Klowss said the Committee provides a strong framework to ensure local voices continue to guide the management and future use of these important community assets.
“Community halls are the heart and soul of our smaller towns,” the Acting Mayor said. “They bring people together, support connection, and provide a space where local life happens—from community meetings to celebrations and beyond. This Committee gives passionate local volunteers the ability to shape how these halls are used, maintained, and improved.”
The Expression of Interest process for the Committee ran from 6 to 17 August 2025, with all existing committee members formally invited to apply for a role in the newly formed group.
The Committee will take on the stewardship of ten Council-owned halls: Dadswell’s Bridge Hall, Hamilton Lamb Memorial Hall, Jung Hall, Laharum Hall, Mitre Hall, Natimuk Community Centre (NC2), Natimuk and District Soldier’s Memorial Hall, Sailor’s Home Hall, Taylor’s Lake Hall and Telangatuk East Hall.
The Committee will focus on coordinating hall use, encouraging local participation, raising funds, and advising Council on improvements and emerging community needs.
Council extends its sincere thanks to everyone who expressed interest and looks forward to working closely with the new Committee to support the ongoing success and sustainability of our region’s valued community halls.
