The Southern Waters Ski Team will return to Horsham this Australia Day to perform two spectacular shows on the Wimmera River.

The team of more than 50 skiers will perform for crowds between the Anzac Centenary and Wimmera River bridges, with two 45-minute shows to start at 3pm and 5pm.

This year’s team will include the same members that performed at last year’s Moomba Festival in Melbourne, with tricks including barefooting, ballet and pyramids.

The Melbourne-based group performed in Horsham for Australia Day last year. The event proved popular despite a storm that ripped through the Wimmera.

Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Robyn Gulline said the crowd that did brave the wild weather after the storm subsided were treated to an impressive display.

“Fingers crossed that this year the weather will be favourable and we’ll get to see some more fantastic entertainment,” Cr Gulline said.

“The river levels are nice and high at the moment and the clarity of the water has returned following last year’s floods.

“People can take a picnic rug and set up on either side of the river. It will be a lovely afternoon”

Council’s tourism and business development team has worked with event sponsor ACE Radio to make the event happen.

“We are proud to contribute funding and administrative support for these sort of events that make our regional city a great place to live,” Cr Gulline said.
