Council’s Parks and Gardens team has been hard at work over the past weeks, carrying out extensive groundskeeping works as the Horsham City Oval prepares to welcome the Grand Finals of both local football and netball leagues this September.

Neither the Wimmera Football Netball League or the Horsham District Football Netball League has held a Grand Final at the Horsham City Oval since 2022, and the return to the venue is greatly anticipated.

Due to the Parks and Gardens team’s preparations, the oval has held up well to the harsh traffic over the season. Following aeration to improve drainage, multiple applications of fertiliser and re-seeding of the most worn areas, the oval is expected to be in tip-top condition for the big days.

“Many families in our region live for local sport, and it’s exciting to be able to host the Grand Finals of both Leagues” said Mayor Cr Brian Klowss.

“It will also be a great opportunity to showcase the new netball facilities, as well as the new playground for the kids”.

Mayor Klowss said the return of Grand Final fixtures to Horsham City Oval would also deliver a welcome boost to the local economy.

“Events like this bring a significant economic boost to the town. It's a fantastic opportunity to show off everything Horsham has to offer.”

As part of the preparation works, the permanent perimeter fenceline along Hocking Street has also been completed.

The return of Grand Final football and netball to Horsham City Oval is a proud moment for the region, reflecting the strength of local sport and the dedication of Council staff who help make events like this possible.
