A pet microchip registry has closed, are you affected?
Published on 03 March 2025
One of Australia’s animal microchip registries, HomeSafe ID has ceased operations as of 7 February 2025 and is no longer licensed under the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
Horsham’s pet owners may be affected by this closure.
What does this mean for me?
The Homesafe ID database is offline. This means if your cat or dog goes missing, the contact details on the microchip will not be available. If your pet is registered with HomeSafe ID, you will need to change your microchip registration to another company.
What do I need to do?
To find out if this affects you, you will need to know your animal’s microchip number.
If you don’t know your pet’s microchip number, you can find it by checking your registration renewal letter or asking your vet or council.
Once you have this number, check it on the Pet Address website.
If you identify your pet’s microchip being registered with HomeSafeID, and your pet is a cat, dog or horse, you are advised to start the process to register the microchip with one of the other Victorian licensed registries listed below:
- Australian Animal Registry
- Global Microchip Animal Registry
There may be a cost associated with this process which is determined by the registry.
