School holidays at The Station

The Station Youth Centre teamed up with several local services and external partners to deliver a fun and exciting program over these winter holidays.
The Station hosted activities on every weekday of the holidays, ranging from movies, games and hangouts to creative workshops and excursions.
The first event, held on Monday 1 July, was an introduction to Dungeons and Dragons with Level-Up Gaming Events, which saw the kids learning the basics of the game and playing a one-shot campaign. This event was especially well attended, and surely created some new tabletop gaming fans.

Next up was an art workshop hosted by Headspace Horsham on Wednesday 3 July, teaching kids the foundations of creative thinking through several mediums. The kids practiced painting, character design, creative writing and embroidery over the session, while enjoying snacks and movies.

On Thursday 4 July, by popular demand after a previous workshop, former travelling circus performer Dawa returned to The Station to teach the kids a variety of circus tricks, such as juggling,
One of the most anticipated events of the holidays was a street art workshop, presented by Blender Studios, an urban art studio based in Melbourne, who worked with the kids to create striking street art with spray cans. The artists ran two workshops over Wednesday 9 July and Thursday 10 July, both of which were well attended and well-reviewed by the kids.

Also on Thursday 10 July, the kids embarked on a field trip into the Grampians, supported by Wimmera CMA and Horsham Urban Landcare. This field trip was centred around a walk to the amazing Beehive Falls.

After two weeks of workshops and excursions, the last event on Friday 11 July saw the kids chilling out with 90s Disney films and snacks to unwind. On days with no major events, The Station operated as a meeting place for kids to meet up, play games, watch movies and listen to music.
“We have been able to offer something for everyone these holidays,” Youth Services Planning and Engagement Officer, Alicia Drew said.
“We are definitely looking to do the same in September, so keep your eyes out for our next awesome schedule.”
