Last week the Youth team, in partnership with the Southern Wimmera Mallee LLEN welcomed 20 local High School students from Murtoa College into Council to learn more about careers, available pathways, traineeships and apprenticeships and the role of Council in the community.
The theme of the day was pathways and lifelong learning - encouraging the young people to think about the varied skills required over their careers, and thinking with an open mind about their future.
The day started with the group being welcomed by Mayor Robyn Guilline, followed by group discussions with staff based at the Civic building including customer service, finance, CRAT, People and Culture, facilities and Governance.
The group then went on a bus tour of the Selkirk drive depot, before meeting with members of the Parks and Gardens team at the Nature Play Park and the River meeting place. Learning about the maintenance and planning that happens along that space, and the functionality for community use.
After lunch the group then met with members of the Horsham Town Hall team where they were taken on a tour of the Performance arts space learning about Events and production, before finishing with a tour of the Art Gallery.
