Committee reports drop in litter

Horsham Tidy Towns has thanked all who took part in the successful Clean-up Australia Day effort earlier this month.

Tidy Towns Chair David Eltringham said that the community teams in Horsham and Laharum collected 12 cubic metres of litter and rubbish in Horsham, while 40 bags were collected from 15 kilometres of roadsides in Wartook and Laharum.

Other community teams made collections in Haven and along Golf Course Road.

Mr Eltringham said that 40 volunteers from Horsham were assigned to the Western Highway, all CBD carparks, the railway station precinct and the riverfront.

He said it was encouraging that litter and rubbish were considerably less compared to previous years, indicating that the community continues to work towards reducing litter.

Horsham Tidy Towns thanks HRCC, Bunnings, the Horsham Rotary Club, the Laharum community and CFA members for their contribution to another successful Clean-up Australia Day effort.

At the southern entrance to the city, the former ‘Welcome to Horsham’ sign has been removed and replaced with a new modern city entrance sign.  

The former sign included information referring to the city’s previous eight victories at the state-wide Keep Australia Beautiful awards.

In the coming weeks Horsham’s successful and impressive Tidy Town history will be recognised with a dedicated sign located nearby.

Mr Eltringham said that the Tidy Towns Committee will again enter Horsham in the 2023 Tidy Towns “Keep Australia Beautiful” state awards.

Activities and initiatives within the community will be highlighted in the state-wide event which is set to be held in June or July of 2023.
