Couple recognised for front yard makeover

Dan and Ann Mahony of Gardenia Street, Horsham, were thrilled to receive the second Horsham Tidy Towns Over the Fence Front Yard Award.

The ‘Over the Fence’ Award is a way of recognising people for the work they are doing to maintain and improve their properties during COVID-19 restrictions.

Ann and Dan were nominated by their neighbour Lynette Portelli who noted that they had put in a big effort to rebuild their front yard over the past six weeks.

“Ann and her husband have totally transformed their front yard,” Ms Portelli said.

As part of the works they built a new fence, laid new paving, gravel and stone and installed some new artworks. They have also replaced high maintenance plants, turning their whole front yard into a more ecologically friendly and water smart garden.

Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Mark Radford presented the award to Ann and Dan late last week and installed a brass plaque on their letterbox.

The first winner of the award was Margaret Mattiske from Horsham West who maintains her yard to a high standard.

Nominations for the award remain open through June. More details about the competition can be found at the HRCC website.
