Cr David Bowe: Pandemic end in sight

It was really exciting to hear the announcement that the Federal Government has awarded $331,000 for new change rooms to be built at Horsham Aquatic Centre.

Before I was a Councillor I was a member of the Aquatic Centre Advisory Committee and I know how much facilities like these mean to a lot of people.

It will deliver building extensions to the indoor pool hall on the Hamilton Street side of the Aquatic Centre. Included will be two family rooms and two accessible change rooms to allow a person with a disability to access both the indoor and outdoor pools.

There will also be an area for birthday parties. It will be terrific to see our community enjoying these facilities in the years to come.

Sixteen young people from the Horsham area have been welcomed as members of the municipality’s second Youth Council.

This is a great opportunity for young people to learn about Council and leadership.

They also get the chance to have a voice in our community.

Despite COVID disruption, the new Youth Council have been able to meet in person to start planning new initiatives and events for young people in Horsham.

It’s a relief to finally see regional pandemic restrictions easing. I think the most welcome change is allowing us to visitors or have people over for dinner.

There are many people out there who have done it tough. For sure, those with kids having to be home schooled have done a magnificent job to get through it all. But it’s also a great that people who live alone can now welcome friends into their homes and vice versa.

The increase to 30 patrons for hospitality businesses is good news for our local pubs and cafes. For many, it means they can actually have a decent chance of making a profit.

We have so much to be proud of in our municipality, which despite the set-backs has an amazingly positive future, which is being driven by hardworking and forward thinking people.

Please take care everyone and keep up the great work with vaccinations, we’re so close to the 80 per cent double vaccination target.
