Walkers, runners and cyclists can now enjoy more of the Wimmera River after a new track was completed on the south side of the waterway in Horsham.

Called the Langlands Track, the new 2.5 kilometre sealed surface completes a loop between the Anzac Bridge and the Weir on both sides of the river.

While no official ceremony was possible due to COVID restrictions, Horsham Rural City Council Mayor Mark Radford marked the track’s completion with a video.

“At a time when taking a walk in a naturally beautiful area is so important, I’m rapt to say that the Langlands Track is now officially open,” Cr Radford said.

“The track is a completely sealed surface front start to finish, meaning people in wheelchairs, mobility scooters or families with prams can also enjoy using it.

“The south side of the track is actually on private land. So we have the land owners (Chempaka Group and the Langlands family) to thank for their generosity and community spirit in allowing the works to proceed and for giving people the chance to enjoy more of the river into the future.”

HRCC funded the project while Wimmera Catchment Management Authority contributed $100,000.

Several other Horsham organisations were involved in making the project happen including Wimmera River Improvement Committee and Barengi Gadjin Land Council.
