Stay in touch over the Christmas break
Published on 21 December 2022
Even during the Christmas holidays the unexpected can happen, and Horsham Rural City Council staff will be on call for emergencies while Council offices and depots are closed for the festive season.
The Civic Centre and some services will close over the Christmas and New Year period but residents with urgent issues can call Council on 5382977 to be connected to an on-call officer.
Mayor Robyn Gulline wished residents a safe and prosperous festive period.
“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and Council staff I would like to wish all residents a happy and safe Christmas and New Year,” Cr Gulline said.
“The summer holidays are a great opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones. Don’t forget our rivers, lakes and the Aquatic Centre are great places to get together and socialise or enjoy the various activities.
“Water can be fun but it can also be dangerous as we saw during the floods in October. The weather bureau says there’s an above average chance of more flooding over summer.
“Going from one extreme to the other, we will also need to be conscious of possible grassfires as things dry out over summer.
“The threat of contracting COVID appears to be escalating again, so we urge everybody to do the right thing by others in the community, especially those most vulnerable.
“If there is an emergency, watch Council’s Facebook page and website for information and updates.
“Download the VicEmergency app to get emergency notifications on your phone and, if the worst does happen, keep an eye on www.emergency.vic.gov.au for the latest updates.”
Cr Gulline said the break would be a good opportunity for Councillors and staff to recharge after a challenging but productive year.
“We’re looking forward to coming back reinvigorated to keep advocating strongly for the municipality and delivering quality services for residents.”
