Vehicle access to a section of Firebrace Street will be restricted next weekend while a pedestrian crossing connecting Bradbury Lane is constructed.

The works, between McLachlan Street and Roberts Avenue, are scheduled to start at midday on Saturday May 11, and continue from 7am on Sunday, May 12.

The project will involve the installation of kerbing, line marking, and speed humps in the middle of the block.

Parking along Firebrace Street, between Roberts Avenue and McLachlan Street, will be restricted to one side of the road from 12noon on Saturday, and throughout Sunday.

Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Planning for the project has included consultation with impacted business operators, and the works have been timed to limit the impact on retail trade.

Despite the disruption, emergency vehicle and other essential access will be maintained at all times.

Traffic controllers will be on-site throughout the day to coordinate traffic and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.

The Victorian Government has funded the new crossing which aims to increase pedestrian and shopping activity.

HRCC thanks business operators and residents for their patience during the construction period and is confident that the community will appreciate the enhanced safety features once the crossing is complete.
