What Horsham needs from state and federal governments

Horsham Rural City Council has completed its annual review of the Advocacy Priorities prospectus, a key document used to secure funding for major community projects from State and Federal Governments.

The updated prospectus highlights both current and new high-priority projects that are essential for the community’s growth and development.

Here are the key advocacy priorities from the Horsham Rural City Council’s 2024 Investment Ready Priorities:

• Upgrade of Key Freight Routes: Enhancing local link roads to improve safety and reduce maintenance costs for heavy vehicles.
• Horsham City Oval Upgrade: Developing new netball facilities, an outdoor events stage, and a multi-purpose community pavilion.
• Horsham Aquatic Centre: Constructing a water play and splash park to provide additional water-based activities.
• Central Park Community Play Space: Redeveloping the Horsham Skate Park into an inclusive, multi-generational play space.
• Industrial Estate Development: Leveraging industrial land to boost economic output and support agricultural innovation.
• The Wesley Redevelopment: Reopening and modernising the historic Wesley centre to enhance community liveability and attract visitors.
• Laharum Oval Community Facility: Replacing ageing infrastructure to support local sports and community activities.

Background 

In May 2021, the Council adopted the Advocacy Priority prospectus to outline high-priority projects for the community. This document, along with the Investment Ready Priorities, has been instrumental in advocating for funding over the current Council term.

The annual review ensures that the prospectus remains relevant, reflecting both completed projects and new priorities.

Key Updates

• New Projects: Inclusion of the Central Park Play Space project and projects related to the Horsham Destination Local Area Action Plan, such as the Golf Club Resort and Horsham Aerodrome master plan.
• Updated Cost Estimates: Revised cost estimates for ongoing projects.
• High-Priority Focus: A shortened prospectus featuring eight high-priority, investment-ready projects.

Community Engagement 

The updated prospectus aligns with the Council’s long-term capital works priorities and the Annual Action Plan 2024-2025, which underwent community engagement earlier this year.
