Council Confirms No Active Data Centre Applications or Discussions

Horsham Rural City Council is not aware of any active planning permit applications for a data centre in Horsham and has not had any discussions with the Victorian Government or any proponents regarding such developments in the municipality.

Mayor Cr Brian Klowss said Council understood community interest in the issue and wanted to clarify the current situation.

"Council is not aware of any proposed data centre developments in Horsham, nor have there been any discussions with proponents or the Victorian Government about these types of projects in our municipality," Cr Klowss said.

Council acknowledges community interest in the potential impacts of large-scale developments and has consistently advised the Victorian Government that meaningful community engagement is essential for any significant project proposed within the municipality.

"Council's position is that communities should be appropriately informed and engaged whenever major developments are being considered. Open and transparent communication is critical to maintaining community confidence in planning processes," Cr Klowss said.

Council can confirm that a planning permit relating to a previous proposal was issued several years ago. However, the development did not proceed and that permit has since expired.
