An increased number of dog attack incidents were reported in recent weeks, a majority of which occurred due to dog owners having their dogs off leash in areas where it is prohibited.
Dog owners are reminded that the penalty for having their dog off leash in a non-designated area is a $407 fine.
Council provides five designated off leash areas at these locations:
Aside from these areas, dogs need to be restrained with a sturdy leash attached to a well-fitting collar, harness or halter at all times, and must be housed in a secure yard. It is also extremely important to make sure your pets are registered. Registering your pet with Council makes it easier to reunite loose animals with their owners. Registering your pet costs only $173, lowering to $58 if your pet is desexed, or if you belong to a rescue organisation.
