All seven of Horsham Rural City Council's rubbish trucks now have names, thanks to a competition run by Council's Waste and Youth Services teams earlier this July.
The "Name Our Rubbish Rigs" program invited young people from across the municipality to add some personality to Council's rubbish trucks, with name suggestions and votes received by Council's Youth Services team directly, as well as through schools and other youth networks across the municipality.
Many pop culture references, clever alliterations and terrible puns later, the fleet now consists of:
“It's been terrific to see the enthusiasm shown by our younger residents through the name Our Rubbish Rigs Program” said Mayor Cr Brian Klowss. “It's a fun initiative that has given young people an opportunity to engage with Council while adding a little extra personality to an important community service.”
For their efforts, seven lucky voters received $50 vouchers from a random prize draw, drawn by Mayor Cr Brian Klowss and Youth Mayor Cassara Rowan and Youth Council Deputy Mayor Minha Rahman. Name plates will be added to the trucks at a later date.
