Playgroups and Other Activities

Playgroups offer an opportunity for children aged 0-5 years to meet, play and learn with other children. They also offer a chance for parents and carers to mix with others. Playgroup gives children an opportunity to have fun, make new friends and develop new skills through informal play. All playgroups are different, but the emphasis is on fun and friendship.

Playgroups welcome parents, grandparents, carers, families with additional needs and multicultural families within the Horsham Rural City Council shire. Find out more, below, about the different types of playgroups (and other early years activities) that are available to you in the Horsham region.

A supported playgroup has a professional facilitator and sessions include play for children as well as parenting strategies for families from the smalltalk program. Information and support is provided to families in settings that allow their children to play and interact with other children. Morning tea is also provided. These playgroups are facilitated by Horsham Rural City Council at no cost to families, however eligibility* criteria applies.

*Eligibility criteria: Health Care Card holders (or similar—follow the booking link for a list)

Community playgroups

A community playgroup is usually run by parents, carers or organisations within the community. They are held in various venues around the municipality and often a small cost applies.

Playgroups are fantastic because they give children the chance to connect with others and develop their skills, while providing a great way for parents or carers to make friends themselves.
