What goes in your landfill bin?

Your red bin is collected fortnightly and is for any items that cannot be recycled through your yellow bin (recycling bin), green bin (food and garden waste bin), purple bin (glass) or other recycling services.

Yes, these items can go in your red bin 

All rubbish must be bagged or wrapped before going in your bin. 

  • Plastic bags, plastic film, soft plastic (best to go to the Resource Recovery Centre first)
  • Fruit and vegetable stickers
  • Baby wipes and wet wipes
  • Nappies, sanitary and incontinence products
  • Garden hose, gardening tools (if metal, should go to the Resource Recovery Centre)
  • Expanded polystyrene, foam meat trays
  • Takeaway coffee cups, lids (if they do not have seedling symbol)
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste tubes
  • Bandaids, blister packs
  • Toys (excluding electronic items) (can be donated to Big W's Joy Program, Op Shops or the Resource Recovery Centre)
  • Broken drinking glass, mugs, ceramics
  • Broken crockery.

  • Batteries, mobile phones
  • Electronic items (anything with a plug, battery or power cord)
  • Chemicals, solvents
  • Gas bottles
  • Hot ashes, pressurised liquids (cans)
  • Printer cartridges
  • Oils

What happens to your rubbish?

Items put into your red bin are sent to landfill. The rubbish is spread out, flattened by large earth-moving machines and covered in soil. Reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill is one way we can help care and protect the environment.
