Horsham Rural City Council’s reception foyer is about to be upgraded to provide a better customer experience.

The Civic Centre will remain operational throughout the eight weeks of construction.

However from Friday 28 May a temporary customer service area will operate at the rear of the Civic Centre, with access and parking available via Urquhart Street.

Chief Executive Officer Sunil Bhalla said the existing customer service foyer would be extended to include two new private interview spaces for confidential customer discussions.

“Having an improved customer service location means we can better respond to customers’ needs and improve the acoustics for better communications,” Mr Bhalla said.

“Previously we have had to send customers to all four corners of the building. Now all the services will be a ‘we come to you’ approach.

“A designated building and planning counter will also be reinstated. The planning department is consistently in high demand and the changes will allow us to be more efficient in addressing people’s needs,” he said.

Major accessibility issues will also be addressed by bringing public areas of the building up to current standards for general accessibility and Disability Discrimination Act compliance.

Customers are reminded that telephone or online options are also available for nearly all Council-related matters.

“When the renovations are complete, customers will enjoy a more modern and convenient reception space,” Mr Bhalla said.
