On Tuesday 12 May, Council staff closed off two dirt jumps at the Burnt Creek site after they had been significantly altered over the weekend. The modifications had changed the jumps into doubles jumps, which were not part of the approved trial layout and created additional safety concerns for riders and other site users.
Staff also removed the early stages of a cubby structure that had been constructed from sticks and other natural materials within the site area. While we appreciate the enthusiasm and creativity people bring to the space, unauthorised structures and changes can create safety issues and may affect the environmental and cultural importance of the area.
As part of the Burnt Creek Dirt Jumps Management Plan trial, Council will continue to monitor the site and remove any unauthorised changes or new features. The trial is focused on maintaining a safe, sustainable, and community-supported recreation space while protecting the surrounding environment and respecting cultural heritage values.
Council asks local riders and community members who use the site to do so responsibly and support the shared care of this site.
