Horsham welcomes 18 new Australian citizens

Horsham Rural City Council welcomed 18 new Australian citizens at a special ceremony at the Civic Centre on Wednesday 23 September.

The new citizens, who came from Fiji, India, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Argentina, the Philippines, Finland and New Zealand, made the Australian Citizenship Pledge in front of their families, friends, invited guests and Council representatives.

Mayor Cr Brian Klowss and Chief Executive Officer Gail Gatt led the ceremony, with more than 47 guests joining the new citizens to mark the occasion.

Cr Klowss said it was a privilege to formally welcome the municipality’s newest Australian citizens.

“It was a very special moment to see our newest citizens take the pledge, surrounded by the family and friends who had shared the journey with them,” said Cr Klowss.

“Our community is shaped by people from many different backgrounds. The experiences, cultures and traditions our newest citizens bring with them add to the character of our region and help make it a welcoming place to live.”

“We were delighted to celebrate this important milestone with them and officially welcome them as Australian citizens.”

Horsham Rural City Council hosts citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Australian Government throughout the year.
