Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) has announced an update on the Horsham City Oval Community Facility, the third and final project to be funded as part of stage 1 of the City Oval and Sawyer Park redevelopment.

While the netball courts and stage are fully funded, Council and community user groups are awaiting the outcome of a $4.8 million application to the Growing Regions Fund for the multipurpose community facility and change rooms.

The HRCC was successful at the expression of interest stage and has now progressed to the full application stage. The full application was lodged in December 2023, with the result expected to be announced soon.

“We are excited to find out the result,” Mayor Robyn Gulline said.

“If successful, the next step would be to go to tender and start construction of the new facilities.”

“The works would need to begin within six months of the funding announcement. As City Oval is managed by Council, the community facility will continue to operate as a shared space.

“Regular users of the current building include Horsham Cricket Association and Horsham Football and Netball Club. These groups, along with others, will continue to be able to use the facilities,” she said.

Cr Gulline said Council and the user groups were awaiting news of the funding decision with bated breath.

“If we are unsuccessful, Council will continue to advocate for external funding via future state and federal government grant programs.”

“We are hopeful for a positive result and the flow-on impact the new facilities will have on local sports and activities,” she said.
