Horsham Rural City Council is helping families celebrate Children’s Week by hosting a fun-filled day at Kalkee Road Children’s and Community Hub on Monday.

It starts with an activity for children as they arrive to go to kindergarten, followed by a play session with face painting, a visit from 'Dazzling Dan The Magic Man' and a healthy morning tea.

Children’s Week, from Friday 19 October to Sunday 28 October, is a national celebration recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of young people.

Manager Community Services and Emergency Mandi Stewart said this year’s theme was based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Article 12: Children have the right to say what they think should happen and have their opinions taken into account.

“Children were part of the consultation when we designed the Kalkee Road Hub and we continue to use concepts such as child-led play and encouraging children to be able to follow their instincts around play rather than being adult directed,” Ms Stewart said.

The free event is presented by Council, in partnership with the Victorian Government.
