Flood

Horsham Rural City Council has a history of flooding ranging from minor flooding to the major floods of January 2011 and more recently in October 2022.

The Wimmera River and its tributaries flow south to north across the municipality and pass through Horsham and Dadswells Bridge.

Flooding in these towns is usually related to rainfall events in the Upper Wimmera Catchment.

The Natimuk Creek system passes through Natimuk and can impact the township when localised heavy rainfall events occur.

The Natimuk Flood Intelligence Card(PDF, 1MB) contains information on which properties in Natimuk are likely to be subjected to flooding and a tool to estimate the likelihood of flooding given certain rainfall.

The Wimmera Catchment Management Authority has conducted a number of flood studies and prepared flood maps for flood affected townships in the municipality. They are all available on the Wimmera CMA website.
